Businesses Support Maunalua Bay Independence Day
Despite the economic downturn, several East Bay businesses are stepping forward to support the second annual Independence Day at Maunalua Bay.
Foremost among them is Outback Steakhouse Hawaii Kai which has committed to be a Diamond Sponsor.
Diamond Sponsors contribute $10,000 or more to the community event celebrating freedom, family and friends on July 4 from 2 to 9p.m. at Maunalua Bay Beach Park. Continuous live entertainment headlined by Maunalua, free keiki ID and other keiki activities are planned throughout the afternoon with a spectacular fireworks show at 8 p.m.
Instead of just writing a check, Tyler Roukema, owner of Outback, decided to sponsor two fund-raising dinners, offering 500 tickets to each. Tickets at $15 are now on sale for the second benefit featuring a sit-down meal at Outback with a choice of three entrees plus a side and salad. Tickets can be used any time during June. For information, call Laura Buck, co-chair at 256-3553.
Another major sponsor for a second year is Pacific International Realty which gave $5,000 as a Platinum sponsor this year. Owner Melanie Long is president of the Independence Day at Maunalua Bay Foundation which sponsors the event and also chair of the 2009 celebration.
Hawaii Kai Towne Center is supporting IDMB by providing VIP parking. Several of its tenants also are participating. Roys Hawaii Kai, HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union, East Oahu Realty and Central Pacific Bank are financial sponsors; Taco del Mar is a food vendor, and ProService Hawaii donated money for the event T-shirts. SmartBusiness Hawaii assisted board member Elizabeth Reilly with getting vendors.
Koko Marina Shopping Center and several of its tenants are lending support, too. Besides a $2,000 sponsor contribution, Koko Marina is offering parking on its upper level lot by Straub Clinic with access for shuttle buses to transport people to the event site. Off-site parking also is available at Hawaii Kai Towne Center and Kaiser High School.
The 76 gas station at Koko Marina donated 3 cents from every gallon of gas sold in June to IDMB. Other Koko Marina businesses supporting the event are First Hawaiian Bank and American Savings Bank, financial sponsors; Bubbies Ice Cream, Subway, Jamba Juice, Salad Creations, food vendors and Zippys which is supplying bento boxes for volunteers.
