Small Business Hawaii at 30: Best is Still Ahead!
Small Business Hawaii threw a party for itself and it was a typical fun as only SBH events are! The 30th Anniversary Dinner was held on Saturday, September 9 at the Ala Moana Hotel Garden Lanai.
It was a bit of fun, nostaglia, entertainment and memories. About 150 people attended. The dinner had been promoted for about six months prior to the event. No matter that the Governor Lingle campaign committee moved up their annual fund raising ball by six weeks and it just coincided with the SBH event. It conflicted a number of SBH members who couldnt be in two places at once. (Some opted for the minimum $250 per person black tie political ball, while others marched to the beat of a different saxophone and attended SBHs event.)
Founder Lex Brodie and wife Ev, George Mason and Dot and many old timers from back in the day, showed up and had plenty to say. Then there were the current leaders and the young and future SBHers. The event was a fundraiser for SBH and also showcased an Authors Signing (SBH published books by John Pritchett, Ken Schoolland and Bob Sigall). Sigalls mom, Martha Sigall, a well known Hollywood writer and animator was there too along with Randy Roth of Broken Trust.
Many SBH members contributed to a Silent Auction under the direction of SBHs Darlyn Evangelista.
KHVHs Rick Hamada and beautiful wife, Bernadette Barraquio, were M.C. and beauty. Rick really connected with entrepreneurs.
Tom Watson, SendOutCards.com, sang and played the guitar. Tom was great. Shows again how multi-talented SBH members are.
Many of the guests got tremendous bargains during the silent auction sponsored by: AIG Hawaii, Alan Wongs Pineapple Room, ALTRES, Inc., Big Red Q Quickprint, Bob McWilliams Pottery, Edward Enterprises, Hard Rock Cafe, Hawaii Beach Homes, Hawaiian Happy Cakes, Helens Haven, Island Collections, Kahala Shell, Legacy Group Hawaii, Lex Brodies Tire Co., MacMouse Club, Maui Divers of Hawaii,Oils of Aloha, Paradise Cruise, Ltd., ProSERVICE Hawaii, Roys Restaurant, SERVCO Raynor and Tikis Grill & Bar.
Table sponsors for the event included: Cliff Slater, Dr. John Spangler, East Oahu Realty, Legacy Group Hawaii, Gyotaku Japanese Restaurant and Production Hawaii.
