Small Business News Special Online Edition Survey Report
Small Business Hawaii is teaming up with Hawaii Pacific University student Hue Brumback in a study of satellite technology for internet access use by Hawaii's small businesses. Brumback is pursuing his Masters of Science in Information Systems degree at HPU. The study is his thesis project. What is the purpose of the study? The study is one of the student's course requirements. Brumback is gathering information on small business use (or non use) of satellite network infrastructure for broadband Internet access. Businesses do not need to be familiar with or currently be using this particular technology to participate. Who can participate? The survey is designed to collect responses from Hawaii small business in the following sectors: retail, real estate, and professional, scientific, & technical services. However, any small business in Hawaii is invited to participate. How long is the survey? The survey consists of 53 questions and takes approximately fifteen minutes to complete online. More time may be required to review the instructions or to print a copy of the survey. Why should I participate? The results of survey may benefit Hawaii small businesses in several ways. First, it may be useful to small business owners for IT planning. Second, it may encourage future academic studies of small businesses in Hawaii. Third, it may help satellite Internet service providers better cater to the needs of small businesses. Finally, your participation will assist a student in his pursuit of higher education. If I choose to participate, will my responses be kept anonymous? Absolutely! At no point will responses be attributed to individual participants. When does the study end and when will the results be available? Data collection ends on 31 September 2004. The final edition of the thesis with data analysis will be available 12 November 2004. Electronic copies of the thesis will be provided on request. How do I participate? Additional information about this project is available at http://www.hpusurvey.net. The password to take the survey is: takesurvey. Please direct any questions or comments about this project to Hue Brumback: hbrumbac@campus.hpu.edu.
