2004 Hawaii Small Business Fair

Small business is the backbone of Hawaii's economy, but there is more to running a successful business than most entrepreneurs realize at first. Without careful planning and a bit of luck, failure can be just around the corner.

Fortunately, there are a whole host of government agencies and nonprofit organizations that provide free and low-cost services to small businesses in Hawaii. Where are they?

Find out at the free 2004 Hawaii Small Business Fair on Saturday, May 22nd, at Kapiolani Community College, from 8:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.! Anyone can attend, and there is no registration.

Representatives from government and nonprofit organizations will be on hand to talk to you about their services and resources, and to provide information on the spot!

Of course, the Department of Taxation and Small Business Hawaii will be there, but also, the U.S. Small Business Administration, Internal Revenue Service, Hawaii Women's Business Center, Hawaii Community Loan Fund, U.H. Pacific Business Center Program, Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship, Pacific Gateway Center, Better Business Bureau, and many others!

Various organizations provide counseling, mentoring, training, and other services to small businesses, and also make available resources such as computer access, libraries, loans, and more!

In addition, you can attend free seminars and panel discussions beginning at 9:00 A.M. on a wide range of topics. They include how to start a small business, choosing the right form of business, writing a business plan, record keeping, taxes, marketing, financing options, importing and exporting, and doing business with the government!

Start in the KCC Cafeteria on the upper level of the Ohia Building, where you can pick up a seminar schedule and find all the exhibitors. Come whenever you can, and leave when you must, but spending the entire day will benefit one and all!

Visit the Hawaii Small Business Fairs website at http://smallbusinessfair.state.hi.us for directions to KCC, a map of the campus, and all the latest information, or contact our External Training and Outreach staff by phone at 587-1786, or by e-mail at Tax.Training.Outreach@hawaii.gov.
