Spirit of Ontario is a prototype of a similar ferry that is to start service in 2006.

Hawaii Super Ferry to Debut in 2006

The Spirit of Ontario I ferry sailed into Honolulu Harbor early last month for a preview look of what the new "Hawaii Superferry" will be like. The Hawaii Superferry will be an interisland ferry boat service that will enable businesses, residents and visitors to not only bring themselves, but also their vehicles on trips to the neighbor islands.

Once the Hawaii Superferry goes into service, pricing will be competitive with the airlines at around $45 per person. Extra charges will be applied to vehicles. Travel time between Oahu and Maui will be about 3 hours. The Hawaii Superferry is scheduled to enter service in late 2006.

The ship will be able to hold about 200 cars and trucks and will feature state of the art amenities including wireless internet, aircraft style seating, tourist and business class, a restaurant, entertainment center and a childrens' playroom.
